What kind of dishes are appropriate for New Year's Day?

 

When we think of celebration, red, gold, silver, etc. come to mind in Japan.

 

 

The first Iemoto of the Sogetsu School, Sofu Teshigawara, originally recommended white porcelain as the first choice.

 

(White porcelain is white porcelain like the one on the left. (The example is not a New Year flower.)

 

There are two types of ceramics: pottery and porcelain.

 

Porcelain contains feldspar, an ingredient also used in glass and is fired at high temperatures.

 

Porcelain is famous for brands such as Wedgwood and Noritake.

 

Originally, white porcelain had a prestigious image.

 

The other day, I recommended dark-colored porcelain, but white dishes have a fresh, bright image.

 

As shown in the photo on the left, we recommend placing flowers in darker, brighter colors to contrast with the white porcelain. 

 

 

 

Next, celadon (blue porcelain).

 

In my house with a white background, I used celadon porcelain for New Year's this year, adding a little color.

 

I like celadon porcelain.

 

Celadon is also recommended when you want to add a bit of glamour because the red of the bokeh and the blue of the celadon create a contrasting color.

 

It also looks great when arranging yellow flowers, the opposite of blue.

 

Celadon has been loved by the Chinese since ancient times, and its freshness and elegance make it an ideal vessel for celebrations and other occasions.
